Note: SMS support is in the works, but not released yet. It's coming soon! 🤩
When users opt-in and submit their email address or phone number (e.g., in a quiz), we validate and then sync the data based on your settings in the Integrations section.
How to turn Shopify email & SMS contact updates on or off
You can toggle the Shopify update settings in the Integrations section of your quiz.
If this Shopify setting is turned off, opt-in data is still saved as part of your quiz Submissions, so you can export the data as needed in CSV format.
How contact creation & update decisions are made
When Shopify opt-ins are turned on, we update or create customer profiles with 'accepts marketing' turned on. In full transparency, here's the decision tree determining what updates and when.
How email & SMS contact validation works
We validate email and SMS opt-ins to ensure you only get high-quality contacts added to your list. Our validation at the point of entry is in addition to any measure you have in place with your email and SMS marketing providers.
There are two levels of validation based on which plan you have: Basic and Advanced.
Basic email & SMS validation
Basic validation is included in all plans and tries to automatically catch and correct basic mistakes and formatting issues that would otherwise reduce your list quality with invalid contacts.
Examples of Basic validation (included on all plans):
Autocorrect common mistakes with email addresses, such as example@gmail.cm -> example@gmail.com
Automatically enforce email address format for validation: aaaaa@bbbb.ccc
Automatically enforce phone number format for validation: +15556667777
These validation measures automatically detect and correct many of the most common issues to keep your list quality high.
Advanced email & SMS validation
Advanced validation in our higher plans attempts to prevent disposable email addresses and phone numbers from getting used.
This extra validation goes further to help you establish relationships with real customers, not fake contact data from bots, scammers, and other low-quality contacts.
Here's how it works:
Advanced email validation: Automatically block disposable email addresses: example@fakeemail.com
Advanced phone number validation: Automatically block phone numbers that aren't mobile (e.g., toll-free, VOIP) and can't receive SMS marketing messages.
Phone number (SMS) validation is the most complex, so here's an example of the validation that happens in the background for a phone number to make sure it's possible, valid, works for the region, and is capable of receiving your SMS messages:
Advanced email validation is included in our Growth plan and higher, while advanced SMS validation is included in our Business plan and higher.
